General Information

Before you can start PowerShell ISE on Server 2008, it has to be installed as a feature. Below is a description of how to do this.

Installing PowerShell ISE on Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Start Server Manager using one of the following methods:
    • Clicking the Server Manager icon, which by default is placed on the task bar (see image below)
    • Run %SystemRoot%\system32\ServerManager.msc
    • Click Start
      • Click All Programs
        • Click Administrative Tools
          • Click Server Manager
    • Right-click "Computer" and choose "Manage"
  • Click Features in the left side menu
  • Click Add Features in the main pane
  • Select the Windows PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE) feature
  • Finish the wizard

Note: I've never had to reboot the server after installing PowerShell ISE, and I think it's not normally necessary, but I certainly can't guarantee this.
